Forestry

Forestry is the science of multiple-use management of forests, woodlands and associated natural resources like water sources with the objective of achieving some human and environmental benefits. Some of the natural areas directly affected by the activities of forestry are the provision of timber, wildlife habitat, management of water quality, biodiversity protection, erosion control and conserving forests as carbon sinks.

Forests support the livelihoods of an estimated 20% of the global population, while hosting approximately 80% of the world’s ground biodiversity. In terms of helping us fight climate change, forests are a natural carbon sink that absorbs up to a net 7.6 billion metric tonnes of CO2 per year.
