On 12 December 2015 world leaders from 196 parties at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21) reached a historical legally binding international treaty: The Paris Agreement.
The Paris Agreement includes commitments from all countries to:
- Significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to slow global temperature increase to 2º C above pre-industrial levels during this century while pursuing to limit to 1.5ºC above pre-industrial levels.
- Review the countries commitments every five years
- Financing developing countries to fight climate change, improve resilience and develop abilities to adapt to climate impacts that will be more severe for those countries.
